Semiconductor injection lasers with a circular resonator: A study of GaAs-(GaAl)As dielectric waveguides and their incorporation into a laser resonator
Abstract
A semiconductor injection laser with a circular resonator for integrated optics applications is studied. Electromagnetic wave propagation in dielectric rectangular waveguides is analyzed by means of an improved approximate analysis. The effect of the index difference and the aspect ratio on the modal configuration of a dielectric rectangular waveguide is examined. Propagation characteristics of both straight and curved GaAs-(GaAl)As high mesa waveguides are investigated. Field distribution, propagation constant and radiation losses of the guided modes are determined.
