Effect of the shape of the pump pulse on the electron-beam economy in an electron-beam-ionization CO2 laser
Abstract
The possibility of increasing electron-beam economy by optimizing the temporal shape of the pump pulse is discussed. An equation is derived, according to which the value of the electron-beam can be increased from 1.5 to 2 times that for a square pulse by appropriately tailoring the beam current density. For the case in which the primary limitation is the overheating of the isolation foil, the average output of periodic-pulse electron-beam-ionization lasers can be raised by the same factor.
