On the kinetic properties of the cosmic-ray gas
Abstract
The kinetic properties of the cosmic-ray gas are considered, such as compressibility, the rate at which disturbances are propagated, and the equation of state. The properties are determined directly from the equation for the energy distribution function of the particles, assuming that cosmic rays have an isotropic angular distribution. Equations are presented in order to calculate a sound velocity and compressibility of the cosmic-ray gas.
