Double galaxies with Markaryan components
Abstract
A list of 65 isolated pairs of galaxies is given in which both components have measured radial velocities and at least one component is a Markarian galaxy. A comparison with a sample of normal pairs indicates that paired Markarian galaxies have a significantly smaller velocity and distance relative to their companion than is true for paired normal galaxies. Markarian galaxies are 50% more luminous and have a higher gas content; and their ratio of orbital mass to luminosity (2.2 + or - 1.6) is typical of late-type galaxies experiencing intensive star formation activity.
