Third-order nonlinear susceptibility of Mg II and Ca II ions
Abstract
Third-order nonlinear susceptibility calculations are reported for Mg II and Ca II from the vacuum ultraviolet to the infrared, including transitions to the continuum. It is noted that in some parts of the spectrum the magnitude of the calculated third-order coefficients is comparable to that of the alkali metal vapors.
