Laser-induced nonlinear resonances in continuous spectra
Abstract
The work reviews the theoretical principles underlying nonlinear resonances and nonlinear-optic conversion with the participation of transitions in continuous spectra. Special emphasis is placed on the effect of intense resonant laser radiation on the spectral characteristics of autoionizational resonances in gaseous media. The possibility of laser-induced nonlinear resonances in arbitrary ranges of the continuum is examined. Consideration is given to the application of these phenomena in nonlinear VUV and soft X-ray spectroscopy, and for the generation of coherent radiation in these spectral regions.
