Radant lens - Alternative to expensive phased arrays
Abstract
The Radant lens technology is shown to represent an innovative departure from the conventional techniques employed for electronic scanning. With its 'feed through' attribute, the lens can be used in a wide variety of systems, among them the emerging realm of electronically scanned communications antennas. It is thought that the lens may also prove to be the only practical means for electronic scanning of millimeter waves. For most general applications, the Radant technique is shown to provide a lower-cost, lighter-weight, and electronically less complex alternative to the conventional phase-shifter-per-element method of electronic scanning.
