Progress in GaAs FET power combining with the traveling-wave combiner amplifier
Abstract
A novel approach to the combining of power FET amplifiers is presented which is based on the traveling-wave divider (TWD) concept and employs planar microstrip circuits. Designs of a TWD and a traveling-wave combiner amplifier (TWCA) are described and their characteristics are given. It is shown that the TWCA concept provides a wide bandwidth, small size, and a compact combiner-divider interface. The internal isolation gives the structure additional advantage of FET protection against mismatch of the output load impedance.
