A 700 W Ku-band TWT for Satcom ground terminals
Abstract
The design, performance and integration of a highly reliable and efficient air cooled traveling-wave tube are described. This tube was developed for use in the new commercial communication ground terminals operating at an uplink frequency of 14.0 to 14.5 GHz. The tube uses a coupled-cavity slow-wave structure, a beam scraper, PPM focusing, and a two-stage collector. The tube provides 700 of output power over the 500 MHz band and features the low distortion characteristics required for communication systems. Integration of this tube into the High-Power Amplifier is also discussed.
