Radar observations of meteor-trail drift during July-August 1978 in the Global Radio Meteor Wind Study Project
Abstract
Wind velocity variations were determined at an altitude of 95 km by radar observations of meteor trails; measurements were made at the Kazan, Obninsk, and Kharkov stations from July 27 to August 10, 1978 as part of the Global Radio Meteor Wind Study Project. Results are presented, and it is found that the measurements make it possible to refine current ideas concerning circulation at midlatitudes in the meteor zone during summer. The results also indicate that it is necessary to study the fine temporal and spatial structure of the wind field.
