Planar waveguides for integrated millimeter-wave circuits
Abstract
A survey of shielded planar waveguides, especially of fin-lines, is given in the context of the new circuits that are being developed in the frequency range from 20 GHz up to 140 GHz for radar, communications and radiometry. Shielded planar structures are compared with other mm-waveguides, and their advantages are enumerated: sufficient quality factors, the use of CAD for layout development, standardized etching procedures, easy installation of semiconductors, high bandwidth and the possibility of integration. Examples of planar waveguides are given in order to show the state-of-the-art of the developed components.
