On the structure of magnetic field and its evolution around sunspots.
Abstract
The structure of the solar magnetic field and its evolution around large individual sunspots are investigated on the basis of observations of the longitudinal magnetic field on the photospheric level and H-alpha filtergrams of 18 active regions; for five active regions, the data are supplemented with X-ray pictures. It is shown that active regions have characteristic directions corresponding to the transition of a spot field without change of sign into an extended field region of the same polarity and coinciding with extended (100,000-300,000 km) systems of filament chains of chromospheric fine structure in H-alpha. These directions correspond to channels along which spot magnetic field lines leave the active region or are locked in it. Attention is also given to the behavior of the horizontal and transverse components of the magnetic field.
