Guidance and leakage properties of a class of open dielectric waveguides. II - New physical effects
Abstract
The properties of open dielectric waveguide structures which are of importance to the areas of integrated optics and millimeter-wave integrated circuits are discussed with allowance for the coupling between TE and TM modes. The analysis reveals new physical effects caused by TE-TM mode coupling: leakage and sharp resonance or cancellation. Various numerical results are presented for typical waveguide structures which illustrate these new physical effects quantitatively.
