Harmonic current propagation on AC systems due to HUDC links
Abstract
A method is presented for analyzing characteristic harmonic current propagation into an AC system due to an AC/DC conversion. Frequency dependent models of AC network elements were developed for the appropriate range of frequencies. These models are then assembled into a modified bus impedance matrix for analysis. The methodology was then applied to two different systems and the responses of individual elements and the system as a whole were observed. The harmonic current flows in the system appear to be related to certain characteristics of the system and its elements. Input impedances at harmonic frequencies, the magnitude of shunt capacitances of transmission lines, the size and location of the converters, and the representation of system loads are factors in determining the magnitude of harmonic current flows in system elements.
