Implications on Nuclear Cross-Sections of Measurements of the French-Danish Cosmic-Ray Instrument on HEAD-3
Abstract
Calculated abundances of sub-iron elements in cosmic rays were compared with the abundances measured by the French-Danish cosmic ray instrument on HEAO-3. Discrepancies of several magnitudes, found for a number of elements, are attributed to uncertainties on the nuclear cross-sections. Methods for selecting the input cross-section values are presented, with particular attention to the production of sub-iron elements (Sc to Mn). Modifications are made in the cross-sections for these elements and calculations are carried out again. Results are found to be in good agreement with the experimental points of all energies.
