The effect of relaxation on the linear stability of shock waves
Abstract
Pleshanov (1975) showed that the formation of a region of so-called spontaneous acoustic emission in an arbitrary medium with shock waves is associated with degeneration of the problem of determining neutral curves, on which the real part of the frequency is equal to zero. In the present paper, it is shown that this degeneration can be eliminated by taking into account relaxation of arbitrarily low intensity; in this case, the spontaneous acoustic emission generated by the shock front is absent.
