High resolution electrographs of the M87 jet
Abstract
A set of electrographic plates in the V band was obtained on January 8, 1981 with the Lallemand electrographic camera attached to the 106 cm reflector of Pic du Midi observatory. The plates show that the two brightest knots A and B are clearly separated, before any deconvolution, and the jet is linear between the center and its brightest part (A, B complex). The C complex seems to be slightly off-axis so that the whole jet appears S-shaped. The optical morphology of the jet is strikingly similar to the Very Large Array map at 2 cm.
