Experiments aimed at generating strong fields by means of cusp containment
Abstract
Strong fields were generated in ring plasma by cusp containment using a battery-condenser discharging into a short solenoid with a compressible moving liner of a conical shape. The liner compression was recorded spectrophotometrically in longitudinal and transverse directions of the liner movement; the optimum acceleration of the liner, liner parameters, and the stability of its motion were determined.
