A direct broadcast satellite system for the United States - Satellite characteristics

It is pointed out that spacecraft will be procured using specifications based primarily on performance requirements and not on any particular design. Spacecraft contractors will therefore have considerable flexibility in designing the satellites. To characterize the system, a baseline spacecraft design is synthesized and analyzed in sufficient depth to ensure that all projected performance requirements can in effect be met. Elements of the baseline spacecraft are described to illustrate a typical implementation.
