The telescope and cosmic ray observations at Lubumbashi
Abstract
The structural components, circuitry, and operational characteristics of the cosmic ray telescope Lubumbashi are detailed, along with a summary of observations to date. The detection system features eight He-Ar counters, each 10 sq cm in area, with a useful length of 25 cm and a separation of centers of 1.565 m. The arms supporting the counters can be oriented in any vertical or horizontal direction. Examples are provided of diurnal and nocturnal counts of signals received with the arm in vertical and horizontal directions, along with statistical analyses of actual events as opposed to noise.
