Constancy of the low resolution spectrum of SS 433.
Abstract
The low-resolution spectroscopic history of SS 433 is considered as an indication of its long-term behavior and the extent to which such objects may be singled out in future low-resolution surveys. It is found that the appearance of the spectrum was the same in 1975 and 1981, at the spectroscopic resolution from which H-alpha emissions were originally reported on plates taken in 1959. The only well observed line emission is the strongest H-alpha component which does not partake of the large Doppler variations. It is also determined that the 10th-11th magnitude star 1.5 arcmin from SS 433 is a K dwarf listed in the Bruce Proper Motion Survey General Catalogue.
