X-ray temperatures of distant clusters of galaxies
Abstract
The first X-ray temperature measurements of clusters of galaxies at high redshifts (z greater than 0.1), have been made using the Einstein X-ray Observatory. Evidence is found for decreasing X-ray temperature with increasing redshift. Results are consistent with the gravitational instability hypothesis for cluster formation and growth.
