The use of focused ultrasonic emission for noncontact measurements
Abstract
An ultrasonic device has been designed for measuring clearances between the metallic parts of machines. Tests have shown that the proposed device is capable of measuring clearances greater than 1.7 mm with an accuracy of 0.1 mm. The ultrasonic device is useful for the types of processes where excessive contamination of the ambient air precludes the use of the more accurate optical means, as for instance in tire production.
