Elastic properties of solids under pressures to 100 kbar: Experimental methods and results
Abstract
New methods and devices have been developed for the investigation of elastic properties of solids under pressure to 100 kbar. Results have been obtained for polycrystalline molybdenum, cesium chloride, thallium, barium, cerium, and sodium chloride single crystals. The peculiarities of the pressure variation of the elastic wave velocities and the soft mode generation in the phonon spectrum of solids under pressure near phase transitions have been observed.
