Triple-point trajectory of a strong spherical shock wave
Abstract
An approximate method for the prediction of the triple point trajectory of a strong spherical shock over a planar or conical wall is presented. Good agreement was found between the analysis and experimental results. A shock tube experiment demonstrates the only discrepancy, as the center of the spherical shock slowly moves toward the apex of the cone; implying that the spherical shock is subjected to attenuation. It is concluded that the method gives satisfactory results provided that Mach stem deformation is not significant.
