Coherent structures in swirl generators and combustors
Abstract
In order to achieve a better understanding of the flow structures in a swirl generator, cross-correlation of the fluctuating pressure has been made. These have shown over a large range of swirl number and flow rates, isothermally and with combustion, the presence of three-dimensional time depende2t instabilities in the outlet region. These structures appear to be stable oscillations of the 'processing vortex core' type which are regulated by feedback via the reverse flow zone.
