Land mobile satellite systems at the frequency of minimum cost
Abstract
The dimensions of land mobile satellites are examined on the basis of costs. The number of channels and radio channel parameters are analyzed using the 7/8 GHz system for 400,000 users and the 800/900 MHz system for 50,000 users as examples. These systems will operate with a 8.7 m-phi multibeam antenna on a 4000 kg satellite, and a 13.7 m-phi antenna with a 1000 kg satellite. A one-beam satellite for 5000-400,000 has the minimum cost frequency of 914-382 MHz, and a 20-beam system for 200,000-400,000 users has the frequency of 2080-1819 MHz. Finally, an onboard antenna of 10 m-phi and the mobile gain antenna of 5 dBi are suggested for a one-beam satellite at 800/900 MHz for 5000-50,000 users, and a 20-beam system at 7/8 GHz for 200,000-400,000 users.
