Tests and results of integrated TV sound transmission
Abstract
The use of the vertical as well as the horizontal blanking intervals are utilized for the integration of several sound channels into a PCM signal is discussed. Several systems of this type were developed, and extensive tests with integrated TV stereo sound transmission were conducted via the Symphonie satellite. Results show that with this procedure, it is possible to transmit high quality TV associated sound without increasing the bandwidth of the video baseband. This gives an improved video signal to noise ratio, especially for satellite transmission.
