The Symphonie experiment in China
Abstract
The organization, program, configuration and results of the Symphonie experiment in China are described. The transponder capabilities of Symphonie A were used for the execution of different communication experiments in television, telephone, telegraph, facsimile and data transmission. The main aims of the Symphonie experiment in China were: (1) to demonstrate the extensive possibilities of using satellite communication services in different fields; (2) to test the equipment of ground stations developed in China via an in orbit satellite; (3) to examine the transmission parameters of different transmission systems which might be used in future domestic networks in China; (4) to evaluate the feasibility of the designed in orbit testing scheme on a transponder; and (5) to promote international technical cooperation between China and European countries. These goals were met and a synopsis of utilization characteristics is given.
