Measurement for orbit determination
Abstract
Different types of measurements and the techniques employed to obtain them are discussed. Angular measurement based on satellite tracking antenna direction, on simultaneous dual interferometry, or on examination of photographs of spacecraft against a star field is considered as well as both distance and Doppler measurement. Geometrical characteristics and the representative measurable physical quantities are identified for each measurement type. The magnitude of respective interpretation problems is shown analytically.
