Signal processing distortion loss in PN-PSK spread spectrum communications, command, control, and navigation systems
Abstract
An integral equation embodying a passband distortion function and a signal spectrum weighting function was derived in closed form. Its method of use for calculating exact signal processing loss in direct-sequence, phase-shift keying (PSK) - modulated, pseudonoise (PN) spread spectrum applications is presented. Computer-assisted or manual methods of evaluating the integral expression are worked out in two examples taken from operational satellite hardware. Procedures and design tables are provided for combinations of passband distortion based on a variety of cubic passband phase plus phase-ripple coefficients resulting from interface mismatches throughout the system. Distortion specification is discussed briefly.
