The effect of transponder nonlinearity on the performance of MSK and Offset-QPSK signal transmission
Abstract
This paper considers the performance evaluation of generalized-MSK and Offset QPSK signal transmission through wideband nonlinear satellite channels in the presence of uplink and downlink additive Gaussian noise. Expressions for the bit error rate are derived when transponder exhibits AM-AM and AM-PM conversions. It is shown that the BER of MSK is identical to the BER of binary PSK. Also it is shown that OQPSK has the same BER as that of QPSK. Numerical results are presented for a hardlimiting channel model. Finally, the effect of sampling time error on the performance of these systems is discussed.
