Background effects between 250 KM and 1100 KM
Abstract
The paper deals with data on the electron- and cosmic-ray-induced background, obtained with a pair of large area argon-filled proportional counters (LAD1 and LAD2) flown on board the astronomical Netherlands Satellites. The data are well suited for estimating the expected total background counting rates (i.e., before rejection) in the energy range between 1.4 and 7.2 keV of any planned proportional counter experiment in earth orbit.
