Computer simulation of intense electron beam generation in a hollow cathode diode
Abstract
A modified version of NRL's DIODE 2 D computer simulation code is used to model the electron and proton flow in a hollow cathode diode. Results correspond closely to those observed in experiments performed at NRL and give direct insight into the diode physics. The strong dependence of diode performance on two dimensional distortions of the A-K gap electric field as well as upon the presence of a strong axial magnetic field is clearly illustrated.
