Rare gas halide lasers
Abstract
Experimental results are presented on the characteristics of XeF, XeCl, and KrF excimer lasers for three types of pumping: by an electron beam, by an electron-beam-stabilized discharge, and by a fast discharge. Results of mixture optimization are presented, and attention is given to the energetic, temporal, and spectral characteristics of the lasers. Emission energies of 0.18 J and 0.3 J were obtained for XeF and XeCl, respectively. The highest efficiency (14%) was obtained in the Ar:Xe:CCl4 mixture with electron beam pumping.
