Plasma laser with convective pumping
Abstract
The paper examines a scheme of convective pumping of gas through the active zone of a plasma laser; the operation of an He-Sr plasma laser is taken as an example. Expressions are obtained for the energy concentration of the active zone for which convective pumping assures the necessary thermal state. An analysis is presented of the kinetics of an He-Sr plasma, generated by hard particles. Threshold values of energy concentration are found at which laser action occurs at the Sr II(6Si1/2)-Sr II(5P1/2) transition at a wavelength of 4305 A. Calculations show that convective pumping can assure necessary cooling even for energy concentrations that significantly exceed threshold values.
