Development of a Multistatic Measurement System
Abstract
A description is presented of a Multistatic Measurement System (MMS) which is to be installed at the Kwajalein Missile Range. The MMS can determine the trajectory of reentry vehicles with high accuracy. In addition, bistatic signature data regarding these vehicles are to be obtained with the MMS. Signature data on such parameters as bistatic radar cross-section and wake characteristics are desired at two frequencies, L-band and UHF, and must cover a variety of bistatic angles and aspect angles. The high accuracy trajectory data are needed to provide an improved diagnostic capability on missile flight dynamics over that achieved by monostatic radars, and without the weather and time-of-day limitations of optical tracking systems. The MMS consists of two bistatic receiver systems located on two different islands in the Kwajalein Atoll, and a digital/analog microwave link for control and communication with the Kiernan Reentry Measurements Site radars.
