Weather performance projection for radio frequency, infrared and optical systems
Abstract
The selection of an optimum operating frequency must be partially based on system performance in adverse weather conditions. This paper presents weather performance projections for systems operating in the microwave, infrared, and optical regions and describes methods to calculate attenuation and backscatter in rain and fog. Assuming Laws and Parsons drop size distribution, attenuation and backscatter calculations have been made and the results are presented graphically. To demonstrate the usefulness of this analytical tool the results and measured data have been compared and found to be in close agreement.
