Bit error rate monitor for four phase PSK system
Abstract
Two highly accurate pseudo error detection methods for a bit error rate monitor are described: an improved shifted decision phase threshold method, and a newly devised noise addition method. The two methods are applied to the 4phi CPSK/TDMA modem with a data rate of 43 Mbps at an intermediate frequency of 70 MHz. The accuracy of estimated error rate was examined for various channel conditions, and an estimation error within 20% of the actual error rates from 0.00001 to 0.01 was found.
