Computer-aided design system for castings

A large scale investigation on the problems associated with the computeraided design of castings is conducted. Six task areas were selected for investigation, which relate to major scientific or engineering roadblocks. These roadblocks pertain to geometric modeling/physical simulation problems, the provision of thermal transport data, the problem of filling transients associated with pouring of castings, the modeling of interfacial phenomena, the accurate description of the interaction of the molding-medium and the solidifying casting, and the total economics of the computation system itself.
