The fabric of turbulence
Abstract
This paper is concerned mainly with the visual study of the geometry of the eddying motion in the transitional regime with particular emphasis given to boundary layer flow. Some comparisons are made with the structures which occur in coflowing jets and wakes. Using these observations as a guide, speculations concerning the representative eddy structure for fully turbulent flow are made. A preliminary attempt at modeling the wall region of a turbulent boundary layer is discussed.
