Some analogous problems in fluid mechanics and magnetohydrodynamics
Abstract
Analogous problems in fluid mechanics and MHD are discussed including compressible flow, equations of vorticity and current, and MHD problems in plasma confinement systems. The cases of toroidal fusion plasma, elliptical plasma confined by skin-current, and elliptical plasma in a uniform far-field are analyzed along with the two-dimensional Borda mouthpiece and plasma in a quadrupole far-field. It is concluded that when the analogy is incomplete, as between vorticity and the field, it can be used for expressions which can be tested rigorously; where the analogy is exact, complete mathematical methodologies can be determined.
