Synchrotron radiation problems in storage ring version of FEL
Abstract
Electron beams circulating in storage rings have a very small transverse emittance, very small energy spread, and very high peak current. In the present paper, a low-energy linac or microtron, which can be used to build an FEL (free-electron laser) in the IR, is compared to a high-energy storage ring, which can be used for an FEL in the UV.
