A model oriented approach to measuring rain induced cross-polarization
Abstract
The advantages of the model oriented approach are discussed, and the various possible experimental configurations to identify and assess the models adopted for the depolarizing media are reviewed. Various experiments, i.e., one utilizing three independnet polarizations and coherent detection, and another using one polarization and incoherent detection of co-polar and cross-polar signals, are examined. A three polarization system is recommended to avoid the introduction of assumptions regarding the media. A procedure for standardizing the presentation of crosspolarization data is suggested.
