Scientific report of the Research Department for Fluid Dynamics
Abstract
Activities in theoretical fluid mechanics with contributions on transonic and supersonic flows, boundary layers, and separated flows, are described. Research in experimental fluid mechanics, principally dealing with boundary layers, flow acoustics, separated flows, aerodynamics of airfoils and of air and spacecraft configurations, diagnostics, and development of research facilities was performed. Turbomachinery, including aerodynamics and combustion phenomena, and acoustics (with emphasis on propeller noise, airframe noise and noise certification) were studied. Design aerodynamics, with computational modelling of flow fields around planes, road vehicles and turbine blades is discussed.
