Digital facsimile communication over satellite links
Abstract
This paper describes the correlation between the characteristics of digital facsimile transmission and those of the satellite links now operating as a main transmission means for international communication, combined with the recent increase in demand for new and improved functions. The paper reports the results obtained from testing the high-speed digital facsimile equipment developed by KDD on the practical international transmission channels over the satellite links and also describes functions necessary for maritime digital facsimile transmissions over their links. The expected functions of international facsimile transmission service are also described. Finally, the paper forecasts traffic characteristics of the digital facsimile and the new visual communication service over satellite links.
