TDRSS multiple access telecommunications service
Abstract
The paper discusses the Multiple Access (MA) service provided by the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS), the theory of beamforming, the requirement for MA calibration and the calibration technique used. The thirty element adaptive antenna on the TDRSS is beamformed via ground station beam processing and inherently experiences time dependent phase and amplitude errors. A calibration technique for compensating these uncertainties and maintaining open-loop beam pointing by ground station signal processing has been developed and is described. Error budgets are shown for the MA service.
