A FORTRAN package for fluid resistance in pipes, valves and fittings
Abstract
A package of FORTRAN subroutines for the computation of steady-flow incompressible fluid resistance in pipes, valves, fittings and reduction and enlargement components is presented. The mathematical model is defined and examples of the use of this package to compute airflow pressure losses in ducts of square and rectangular cross-sections are given. Pressure losses calculated by this incompressible fluid approximation are compared with isothermal compressible flow calculations and errors are plotted as functions of pressure loss for various inlet pressures and flow-rates. In another example, the time response of water flowing from one tank to another through various pipes, valves and fittings is obtained.
