Problems in mobile communication via satellites
Abstract
Three aspects of satellite communication with mobile ground stations are examined: satellite transmission efficiency, suitable equipment for mobile units, and transmission media characteristics. Possibilities for large geostationary satellite structures, e.g., the Public Service Platform, a multibeam antenna, are considered. The equipment used for the German Experimental Ship Terminal is discussed. Transmission measurement results (1.5 GHz) at low elevation angles are emphasized. Atmospheric influences, multipath effects, and signal fading are analyzed for transmissions via ATS-6 and Marisat satellites.
