Trees and the ancient record of heliomagnetic cosmic ray flux modulation
Abstract
A record of the fluctuations in the atmospheric C-14 levels, going back to about AD 800, is presented together with the calculated C-14 production rate changes generating it. Previously, a clear link between heliomagnetic cosmic ray modulation and C-14 production rate changes was established (Stuiver and Quay, 1980), and the C-14 results therefore provide a record of solar variability extending back for over 1000 years.
